FIRST DOUGLAS DC-3 IN SOUTH AFRICA

The first DC-3 to visit South Africa was the KLM DC-3 C/N 1939 PH-ALR named Reiger and arrived at Rand Airport on 11 December 1938.

After seing service with KLM as PH-ALR the aircraft was used by BOAC and registered G-AGBC but was written off at Heston on 21 September 1940. The Aviodrome in Holland have created a replica of this aircraft and have used C/N 32966/16218 ex G-AMCA. Vistit their website for further information.
